Patrick was in an accident today.
"I'm okay don't worry." He was so calm. Somehow I still worry. I guess that's what I do though.
Thankfully it was just a fender bender type accident but given that it was on a major highway, it could have been much worse. "It happens everyday, Babe" he said to me as if I should be collected about it and understand the notion.
I know it happens everyday but it's different when it's close to you. I suppose I understand better now how my mother feels every time I call her from a highway saying "I've been in an accident." That isn't to say that my love is somehow maternal but rather that when you love someone who is in harms way or who is in some type of situation which has the possibility of being physically ailing, it's scary; only amplified by the fact that you can't get to them. It's one thing when you get a call from ten minutes away saying, "Hey, I've been in accident can you come right away?" because you can come right away. But when you get a call from something like 3500 miles away and it would take you literally 2000 USD and about 14 hours to get to the person, it's a bit different. Scary.
Nonetheless, he is okay. A Volvo rear-ended a Chevy Malibu which rear-ended Patrick's Volkswagen. Just a few scratches and maybe a couple dents in the back bumper I'm assured.
Lucky. Really lucky.
Thank you Universe.
